2026 NUTCRACKER CASTING
6th Position supports the growth and inclusivity of every ballet dancer. We welcome dancers from other studios and support the opportunity for collegiate relationships across Canberra’s ballet community.
Casting will be chosen by the audition panel based on which dancer will best represent the role, or assist a dancer with strong potential to grow technically and artistically. The audition panel’s decisions are final.
6th Position’s reputation of an inclusive and supportive dance community must be upheld at all times. We expect all performers to show support for each other.
Please remember that all ballet productions require an equal commitment from each performer. The Director may recast a role if a dancer has missed too many rehearsals.
Five Performances
This production will feature a four theatre performances of two morning matinees and two evening performances on Saturdays 11 and 18 July 2026. More than likely, there will also be a community performance with the travelling event: Christmas In July Festival.
2026 offers up to two roles (one each for Cast A & B) for all Principal Roles, Supporting Principals, Soloists and Featured Artists. The maximum numbers of roles to hand out are awarded at 6th Position’s discretion and are not compulsory to fill. if you are awarded a role to share, you will perform once in Cast A or B in the distinct role and then the other as corps de ballet.
The corps de ballet will also be required to dance in all five performances unless we receive a high number of applicants at auditions and can accommodate a Cast A & B for corps de ballet groups too. This would also be contingent on studio space available in the schedule.
Distinct Roles
There are several distinct roles available. You will be asked on your audition intake form if you wish to be considered for a distinct role and if you have any strong preferences to not participate in certain roles. All roles can be performed in either gender.
Corps De Ballet
There are five corp de ballet roles available at each level of classical technique. You will be asked on your audition intake form what level you believe you currently dance at. If you’re not sure where you fit best, please come to both auditions or send us an email and we can guide you!
