The intent is to provide you with a basic dance vocabulary that you can build upon when you are ready to move into your first Beginner class.

This is an 8 week course.

Course dates

April 7 - May 26

June 16 - August 4

BEGINNER

Beginner classes assume a basic understanding of terminology and movement, and focus on technique, coordination and strength to help students become more proficient in their movement.

At the beginner level, students will take time to learn and understand movements and sequences. Students are learning correct arm and foot placements and choreography will be simple and slow-paced.

ELEMENTARY

Suitable for those with two to four years of recent ballet experience, or five to seven years training from earlier days, in a similar style. You will have a good grasp on your beginner technique and be able to demonstrate good body awareness.

Elementary classes focus on learning more complex, quicker and bigger movements, with longer exercises. Strength building remains an important component of class. You will also begin to explore your dance artistry.

ADVANCED-BEGINNER

Advanced Beginner classes aim to help you transition up to the elementary level.

Students will continue to execute the movements and expression / artistry learnt in Beginner Ballet, and begin working at a faster pace particularly for common sequences and basic movements. Students are confident with arm and foot placements at the barre and show correct turnout, pointed feet, and an understanding of ballet terminology.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED

Classes will move at a fast pace and students should be able to pick up sequences and choreography quickly.

Dancers should be able to demonstrate excellent body awareness and knowledge of ballet terminology. This level requires you to have the technique, coordination and strength to execute longer and more movement combinations.

You will begin to learn advanced technique, steps and combinations, and particular attention is given to dance artistry and polish.
